Pre-existing medical condition
This relates to any medical condition that you had before you took out the travel insurance. It is really important that all pre-existing medical conditions are declared to your insurer before taking out the cover.
If your medical history changes after taking the policy but before you travel you should make sure to contact the insurer before you travel to ensure that they will continue to cover you.
Undiagnosed condition
This is any pre-existing medical condition that is currently under investigation or has not yet been diagnosed. Most travel insurers not be unable to offer cover for an undiagnosed condition.
Hazardous activities
Any activity where there is an increased risk or injury to both yourself and to others will be classed as a hazardous activity. Most insurers specify activities that you will be covered for automatically however high risk activities such as winter sports cover will need to be added to the policy.
It is really important to check what activities are included before you travel.
Repatriation
If you fall ill or are injured and need to return home for further treatment the insurers can cover the costs of getting you home. In the event of death overseas this cover will also cover the costs of returning you home.
Annual multi trip cover
This is a type of travel insurance that will cover you for 12 months allowing you to take multiple holidays all covered policy. These policies will usually have a limit for the number of consecutive days you can be away for. Most policies will require a trip to either start or finish in the UK.
Baggage and belongings
This will cover you if your belongings are lost, damaged or stolen, either during transit or whilst you’re on holiday.
You should check the limit on the policy to ensure that you have enough cover whilst you are away. Higher value items may need to be covered under your home insurance.
Cancellation and curtailment
Cancellation and curtailment will cover the cost of your holiday should you need to cancel, or cut your holiday short – i.e. If you or a close member of your family falls ill and can no longer travel or you need to return home early.
Delay
Did you know that if your flight is delayed for more than 12 hours you might be eligible for compensation? With this cover the insurers will pay up to the limit shown in your schedule as compensation for the travel delay. However it is vital to keep all receipts during the delay, and take confirmation of the length of the delay from the airline.
